Choosing Between Negotiation, Mediation, & Litigation
The appropriate path depends on the level of conflict, available financial information, child-related concerns, safety issues, and the parties’ ability to communicate. We advise clients during negotiations, mediation, and contested court proceedings, adjusting the strategy as the case develops.
Private mediation is a voluntary process conducted outside the courtroom with a neutral mediator. It isn’t the same as child custody recommending counseling through San Diego Family Court Services, which may be required before a disputed custody hearing. We explain the purpose of each process and prepare clients for the issues ahead.
